Year of Fifteens: Marriage   1 comment

Rebecca in Ottawa1998 was a busy year for us–lots of big, happy things in our life. So, this year we are celebrating observing several fifteen year anniversaries.

Fifteen years ago, I got married to my favorite person in the world, my wife.

My wife is an incredible woman. She’s someone who can find a way for us to do everything we may want to do, be it trying to squeeze in twenty different things into a weekend afternoon, or take on challenges like riding a century. I’m proud of her for her dedication to her own activities as well. Though we are older than when we met in college, I don’t feel like we are, thanks to her. It’s because we’ve haven’t settled into a routine and are stagnant (though some aches in the morning remind us that we aren’t twenty anymore). She is the key enabler of this.

So, I want to thank my wife for the wonderful life we have together, and the great adventures we take on every day together.

Year of Fifteens: The Job   Leave a comment

1998 was a busy year for us–lots of big, happy things in our life. So, this year we are celebrating observing several fifteen year anniversaries.

Pic from Atrium Badge (1998)Fifteen years ago, on June 1, 1998, I started with my company, a large IT consulting company. I gripe about it a lot, and do have concerns about the stability of the group I”m in. However, I also realize I’ve have a number of opportunities to expand my skills, and have been successful there. I definitely think I’ve grown as a professional, and hope that I’ve lead others at my company well.

When I started, I was a Windows Systems Administrator. While I had been in the “real world” for about five years, I could definitely tell I was going to need to step up my game. I was promoted to a manger in 2001, and, since 2005, have been the data center manager. There are days when I’m on the phone and dealing with something. I listen to myself, and wonder how I learned to talk like this, or deal with the problems in front of me. I realize that the experiences I have had working at my company, and the people I work with, have taught me those skills.

The picture is from my building ID, taken when I started. I’ve changed a bit since then as well.

The Year of Fifteens: The House   2 comments

1998 was a busy year for us–lots of big, happy things in our life. So, this year we are celebrating several fifteen year anniversaries.

Our first anniversary was our closing on our house. I’ve lived in this house longer than any other place I’ve called home. Built in 1890, it was redone before we moved in (all-modern electrical), and we’ve replaced all the major appliances over the time we’ve been here. We’ve also had a lot of milestones in this house.
