Mount Lookout Luminaria   Leave a comment

Last Sunday (December 9), Mount Lookout, the neighborhood next to mine, held its annual Luminaria event. This event has been going on for the last thirty-seven years.
Luminaria Slant
It was inspired by Spanish custom of lighting bonfires to guide the Christ child into peoples homes during the holiday season. It evolved into luminaries, votive candles in paper bags. Every year, luminaries are set up on the square, and in front of homes in the neighborhood. Shops on the square stay open late, and a shuttle will run people to the Cincinnati Observatory, which is open for the event. There are also fire pits on the square, and smores.
Roasting Marshmellows
The event is expanding to other neighborhoods in Cincinnati, making for a lovely holiday tradition.
