Cincinnati is hosting the 2012 World Choir Games. This is a biannual event whose goal is to bring the world together through song. It has been going on every year since 2000, however, this is the first time it has been in the Western Hemisphere. It has been really exciting to have this in town, which concerts on Fountain Square, and throughout the area. In return, visitors from around the world seeing how great the Queen City is.
Tonight, there was a “Friendship Concert” at Devou Park, in Covington, Kentucky, titled “…In Perfect Harmony.” The Kentucky Symphony Orcestra hosted the EDT Choir from Norway, and the Pavlo chubinsky Capella Choir, from Ukraine. They did several pieces individual, together, and with choirs from the Greater Cincinnati Metropolitan Area.
My favorite piece is perhaps the best performance of the Tchiakovsky’s “1812 Overture” I’ve ever had the pleasure to watch. It included the KSO, Pavlo Chubinsky Capella Choir,Northern Kentucky Children’s Ensemble, Greater Cincinnati Choirs, and the Fifth Ohio Light Artillery. I recorded it on my phone. The quality is not great, and I accidentally cut it for about 15 seconds towards the end (bumped the control button). However, you can get a sense of what a wonderful performance it is.
